The Art of Dressing Fashion Show

Ya'll know I love fashion and the small community we have in Greenville of fashionistas are gathering for this fashion show organized by my good friend Wes Nicholson.

The fashion show and installation will be benefiting the T.W. Nicholson MD Medical Education Endowment Fund, I love that the proceeds will be going to such a great cause.

The fashion show will be on Thursday, September 24th at the Greenville Museum of Art.  Tickets are only $35 - you get a fashion show, drinks, appetizers and like I said the proceeds go to such a great cause.  You really couldn't ask for more.  I'm super excited to be attending, it's rare that these fun and great events happen in Greenville, in the name of fashion of course!

You can RSVP for the event here and purchase tickets at Better Retailers in Greenville.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see my local Greenville friends there!
As always, stay lovely!
xoxo

Collaboration and how it can help you grow artistically and financially

I just had a thought dawn on me about 10 minutes ago, as I was asking myself what my next blog post should be and it came to me; write about something I know and that has helped me grow immensely over the past two years.  Collaboration!

It seems obvious I know, but sometimes the obvious still needs explanation.  Working well with people comes naturally to me and working with a team helps me to find new ways of showing my work and turning it into a story.  So here are several points that will help you see how collaboration can be huge for your business!

Collaboration helps to:
1.  Expand my group and audience. I expose my craft to a new audience when I work with a printmaker, galleriest, photographer, videographer, model, make up artists etc. the list goes on and on.  In turn I've traded and sold my jewelry to these same artists and their friends.

2.  I learn so much from watching other artists and how they see the world; this in turns broadens my perspective and method of working.

3.  I also learn what NOT to do the next time; this isn't negative but it helps doing something wrong to get it right the next time.

4.  Patience, oh this one is so hard for me but it takes time to process photos, ideas and concepts when working with others.

5.  Reaps benefits infinitely; and you learn to work in a team, being an artist can be lonely so working in group or team every couple of months shakes up your daily work life.

Golden Success

So it's been about two weeks since the fashion show and Art Avenue is reaping the results! I'm quite pleased.

It was such a whirlwind evening; considering I had to fly out the next morning for Panama! It was such a great event, what I was most pleased with was having such a diverse crowd of attendees to see a mixture of clothing and jewelry from all stages of their career.
The Daily Reflector full page article about the show!

The East Carolinian piece.
Some photos from the pre-event and the night of the show.

The vinyl was an added bonus, looks so great on the Art Ave window!

The crowd could barely be contained.
And my new jewelry display cases, FREE!

Vespa Collection coming soon

Earlier in the summer I found a tiny wasp nest and then a bigger one, and it had seemed that our apartment had a perfect setting for wasps to make their nests.  Of course I thought, let me cast this little nest.  And I did, then I began to study the nest and noticed it had a five wall pattern, a pentagon.

Then I began to play with the shape in the studio, I initially wanted to incorporate the cast nest into structured pieces but it just didn't go together well.  And the further I played the more the pentagon became a shape that I wanted to repeatedly use.

Thus, the Vespa collection, vespa is the latin term for hornets.  The name stuck with me and I decided to call my fall/winter collection Vespa.  This collection, ironically enough is perfect for the black and gold exhibition/jewelry in motion fashion show I'm co-producing for Art Avenue.

I'm releasing the jewelry on Monday, September 2nd.  I don't think I've ever been more excited about a collection, I think it's because it's a bit of a departure for me from my previous collections and barely has cast elements which gives me a break from the process (as much as I love it)!

Here is just a teeny sneak peak of the collection....

Auerlian Nights Fashion Show/Jewelry in Motion

These past couple days have been SO crazy! I left Penland on Tuesday, got into Greenville late into the night and the very next day I was meeting with all the people who are working on the Aurelian Nights fashion show.

I miss Penland already however, I missed my cats much more.  I was cuddling with them the whole night.

Okay, so back to this fabulous fashion show I'm co-producing with Paula Chrismon of the Closet Consignment boutique.  The idea began several months ago after I wrapped up my own first photoshoot, I was talking it over with Paula how black and gold is such a rich and glamorous combination, that and that really we should collaborate on an event to celebrate to jewelry and clothing.

So here we are and Paula and I are in the midst of going a bit crazy, but in a good way.  We will be publishing a lookbook for the show and a video!

I'm also very thrilled about the roster of jewelers participating in the show, drum roll please....

I will have more images of the jewelry soon, all will be photographed by either myself or Brittany.  So stay tuned!

I've been gone so long!

wow, I haven't posted this long in awhile.  Things have been a bit busy, with getting ready for the Momentary Myth exhibition and trying to get my jewelry in new boutiques I haven't had as much time for blogging or other projects.

Plus I've been enjoying this month, I love May and the spring when the weather is warmer and I can be outside more often.  I've been playing tennis and running, trying to get more fit and healthy.

What else have I been up to? Reading!
The cover and title of Lapham's recent issue, Animals, of course drew me in! And the Lark book, Vintage Jewelry Design and price was too good to resist.  I consider this reading research for my project this summer, preparing for a fashion show I'm organizing!!!

Yes you heard it first here, I'm planning a fashion show, showcasing jewelry and clothing inspired by golden nights, or as the title I've created: Aurelian Nights.  for now it's a bit of a secret but I can't wait to have the first planning meeting with my time.

Steal like an artist is great for anyone, suggestions and advice on how to nurture creativity and lessons from experienced artists.  From Kleon's book, I'm going to take away the advice to be inspired and also blog more about what excites me and has me thinking grand ideas.

thanks for reading!
