5th Annual ECU Metals Symposium: Image and Meaning

As I was typing this post I couldn't believe that it's been five years since the first symposium!!!

It gets better and better with each year.  I always look forward to the symposium because it's a reunion of sorts, with alumni visiting the school as well as Art Avenue and catching up with old friends and making new ones.

With that I'll do a very short review of some of the events that will be happening in conjunction.

The poster with a list of the presenters and workshops.  The ECU Metals guild does such an
awesome job of making everyone welcomed at ECU and Greenville.

Of course Art Avenue is participating in the fun; we'll be hosting the exhibition curated by Mariah Ross, Nick Heyl and Samantha Clarke.
And I'm especially excited to view the Reliquary Redux exhibition.  Reliquaries have such special meaning, it'll be interesting to see the many interpretations.
The Reliquary Redux is curated by Danielle James, Kate Speranza and Zach Lechtenberg.

A couple of things

So as you can imagine, with the holidays coming up...these next several months are going to be insanely busy.  But I don't mind, it's great to have a challenge and work towards finishing projects.

Not only am I getting ready for holiday sales but also some great exhibition opportunities.  I've been invited to participate in Kathleen Sommers 5th annual bracelet show, SO psyched about this opportunity and I just discovered that my Maybe Sparrow necklace was featured on the exhibition postcard for the Dia de Los Muertos event at Equinox Gallery!

I'm also preparing work to send off to several new galleries, Twilight Gallery in Seattle and Michele Tuegel Contemporary Gallery in St. Petersburg, Florida.  I have been seriously blessed this year.

ECU graduating Spring exhibitions

More amazing exhibitions by ECU graduating students. Many of them my friends, so talented and passionate about their work.

Kat Cole and Abigail representing the ECU Metals graduate program put together a cohesive and expansive body of work. Both of them showing their skills not only in metals/jewelry but sculpture (Kat Cole) and paper/printmaking (Abigail Heuss).

Then there was the magical, almost faerie like worlds of Mike McAteer, using all sorts of material, polymer clay, epoxy, metal etc. to make his sculptural pieces.

And Linda Fox, whom I don't know very well but truly enjoyed her dreamy and deadly photographs, melding several images to create inner worlds of animals and landscapes of Eastern North Carolina.

There are still more shows coming up and I'll try to post more photos. Hope you enjoy!

All made with the tiniest and intentional details.

Abigail Heuss' family tree of spoons.
So intricately detailed and special.

All of Mike's pieces are handmade,
and intentional, right down to the dew on the glass.

I wouldn't want to be in this spider's web!

Construction Senior Exhibition: Tara Locklear, Crystal Lin and Nick Heyl

Construction Senior Exhibition of Tara Locklear, Crystal Lin and Nick Heyl is this Sunday at 3pm. I'm so happy, excited and kinda sad to see them graduate. When you work in a studio of about 20 students you get close and become a family away from home.

I'm so proud of them and impressed; working around such talented artists really feeds my own creativity and knowledge. I'll miss them dearly but can't wait to see where they go.

Aren't their postcards wicked?

Crystal Lin

If you are in the Greenville area, this is one exhibition you won't want to miss.

Thanks for reading!
