LIGHT Art + Design Gallery

Last weekend I went to the holiday exhibition opening Metal 3 at Light Art + Design Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC.  I'd heard many great things about this gallery, especially since several of my friends and ECU alumni are represented there, so I was very happy to be invited to stay at Tara Locklear's place and spend the evening in a city, that is so close that I'd never been to.

Light is owned by two interior designers so the aesthetic and feel of the gallery lends itself to a modern and visually appealing space.  I very much enjoyed the feel of the gallery, as well as ogling the gorgeous jewelry and sculpture on display.  I was also very happy to see Hoss Haley's pieces (that my Penland Class had seen in the process) exhibited!

This was also a celebration of sorts as I got to spend the evening with Sarah West and Tara Locklear, whom I haven't been with both at the same time in awhile.  The three of us were the older ladies in the ECU undergrad studio back in the day (about 3 years ago).  It was really great catching up with them and reliving old memories.

I don't know where to begin about this past weekend's Trifecta Trunk show with Sarah West and Tara Locklear. I had so much fun, worked my ass off and learned so much about putting on a trunk show. Sarah and Tara and I are learning so much and I feel so lucky to work with them on this show and on future shows. We work very well together, being very efficient and organized.

So many of my friends and family came out in support and it meant the world to me. Not only that but strangers and fellow artists came to the shows to see our latest work and have fun! And last but not least, all the free publicity from fellow artists and designers. It feels wonderful - I had the biggest, cheesiest grin on my face all day at Marvin's!

The fashion show at Marvin's organized by the very multi-talented Philissa Williams of Thembe Fashions was so bangin' and HAWT! Philissa is an independent and self taught fashion designer whom Tara serendibitously met through a friend of a friend. Philissa arranged for the fashion show and complimentary bloody mary drinks at Marvin's to showcase our jewelry.

The fashion show was so exciting to me because it fulfilled a childhood fantasy of mine - I always wanted to be a fashion designer, so this was just perfect. Not only that, the music, by DJ Sludge was off the hook. It was the perfect way to end the weekend.

It's almost here: Trifecta Trunk Show!!!

Gah, it's this weekend and we're almost ready for the show. Earlier this evening Sarah, Tara and I met to finalize details. We are very excited and can't wait to show off our hard work.

We hope to see you there, it's going to be alot of fun!

Just a bit overwhelmed

For the next two weeks, I will be busting my ass in the studio to produce work for the trunk show in August with Sarah West and Tara Locklear.

I'm trying not to freak out, panic and just flip out in general...it's scary but really exciting and that's what I'm focusing on, the exciting part. We're doing three trunk shows in the VA/DC metro area and a pop-up graffiti art show. It's going to be very bad-ass and all out sick.

I'll be posting details soon; we're getting fancy postcards designed by ECU art student, Timothy Weaver.

For now I give you some spray painted seashells I collected at Wrightsville Beach last weekend. I have some natural looking ones, but I thought, why not play with my new Montana Gold spray paint (yes I broke down and bought several!).

Charm Swap

Last night we held another charm swap, as usual it was fun to look at everyone's different methods and display.

I got Joshua Craig's charm (not pictured), it's an awesome little spiculum with a magnet to detach it!

Someday I plan on making a bracelet for which to hang all my awesome charms. Thanks for reading.
