Making badass jewelry

It's that time, to teach classes at Emerge Pitt County Council of the Arts next week.  I really do love teaching these small classes, I learn alot and so do my students.

In the last session several of my students took it to the next level with their pieces.  One of the best parts of taking a jewelry/metals class, as well as teaching, is that making objects trains your brain to think in new ways.  You are actively challenging yourself to figure out how parts can go together and which way of connecting them makes the most sense.

Works in progress by Carrie Hodge.  I love the design and texture of both of them.

All three pieces designed and created by Caroline Hedgepeth
In the pieces Caroline made, especially the enameled pendant on the left, she made two pieces and tube riveted them together (or that is the plan).  She wanted the texture of the piercing to overlay the splatter enamel she did.

Sooooo, here's my pitch. If you live in the Greenville area and want to learn jewelry making or take your jewelry to the next level - take my class! It's every Tuesday night, 6-8:30pm at Emerge Pitt County Council for the Arts.

As always, thank you for reading and stay lovely!

I'll be a teacher again!

I'm super excited to announce that I'll be teaching an introduction to metals class this coming fall and winter at Emerge - Pitt County Council for the Arts in Uptown Greenville.  If you're interested you can register here.

You may recall that several months ago I subbed for Joanne Lang's intro metals class at Emerge and I really loved it.  Teaching enlightened me to how much education I have and that it teaches me to be better at what I do.  I'm also challenged to freshen up on my own skills and jewelry vocabulary.  Often times when I'm in the studio, I get comfortable in one technique or skill and end up 'losing' some of that previous knowledge that I had learned in school.  So teaching gives me the opportunity to retrieve that knowledge and pass it along.

Now here's my plug, if you live in the Greenville area, sign up! It'll be fun and a great way to learn something new, meet new people and stimulate the creative part of your brain - it's good for your soul!

I'll be teaching the Fall class which will begin on Tuesday, September 8th from 6-8:30pm thru October 20th.
And the Winter class beginning Tuesday, October 27th from 6-8:30pm thru December 8th.

Me, in the early days of school, raising a copper vessel.
Thanks for reading!
Stay lovely,
Lisette

wrapped around your little finger

Last nights Design with Wine was alot of fun! I had wonderful participants that were all very creative in how they designed their wire wrapped jewelry. As you can see above, Rebecca, one of the participants loved her necklace so much she had to wear it out!
I was really impressed with Lynette's wire-wrapped pendant and wrapped necklace. The agate she brought in was very smooth and presented challenges with wrapping wire around it, but she successfully got the copper wire to hold the bead.
Terry and Sylvia (first women in the table shot above) were great fun and are both avid beaders and jewelry enthusiasts, I enjoyed getting to know them.
And of course the ladies definitely enjoyed the wine and snacks. It reminded me of my days of scrapbooking, long time ago my friend and I would go to her aunt's scrapbooking store and make pages and have a little wine and cheese, it was always fun.

At the end of the class I asked the participants for feedback and advice, and they offered up great suggestions. It's really important to me, as a somewhat new teacher, to understand how I can be better and provide a quality class.

After hosting my first Design with Wine class, I can say that I'd definitely do it again!

I got the job!!

At Emerge Gallery teaching Introduction to Continuing Metal Design. I'm so excited and a bit...nervous, I've subbed classes but this will be my first time teaching a class.

But I'm also really, really pumped to plan my projects and meet the students. My first class is next Thursday, September 9th. Plenty of time to get ready. Pin It
