Asteria Exhibition

It's almost here, about two weeks away from the release of my fall jewelry collection, Asteria inspired by the Greek Goddess of the night sky.

Along with the release I will be co-exhibiting my new collection with Amber Burnette of DeKay Photography on September 5th, 6-9pm at Starlight Restaurant in Uptown Greenville.

This collection is special to me as it's merged two parts of my life; research and inspiration in mythologies and adornment.  Of course with all my collections I have done this however I've felt a very strong pull and urge to look above and beyond, to delve deeper into research and studies of the cosmos.  It's incredibly humbling to understand that one day we will all be dust and that really we are stardust.

Stay posted as I'll be releasing more tidbits of the collection as the date approaches!

Lovearch

An inspiring video about connection in a different and not impossible way.  My friend sculptor Andy Denton (also former Art Avenue Gallerist) created this popular sculpture in 2009 and it's been in heavy rotation, being displayed throughout the United States.  I can see why, it's an unconventional yet meaningful way of connecting two bodies.

Much of Andy's work incorporates yoga poses with Budhhist meaning.  You can view more of his work here.

What it means to carry the totem and message of animals

As you know I'm a big advocate of protecting the habitat of animals, local environment and the living with a conscientious intention.  And part of my jewelry is the message of carrying the qualities and strengths of animals.  With that I believe I have a duty to also support the protection of their habitat.

I'm almost at a loss of how to write this post without getting a bit emotional, because the planet as we know it is changing rapidly though we do not see the effects everyday but little by little the wilderness is being eroded by shopping centers, Wal-marts and the hunger for natural resources like palm oil (ravages the habitat of orangutans and tigers).    I know that I'm a part of the system as well, purchasing metal, stones and other materials to make my jewelry and I'm incorporating ways to reduce my footprint, using recycled metal and stones.

But if we each take small steps each day, such as recycling, reusing containers, cloth bags, buying secondhand items, and handmade goods we can keep at bay the melting of the Arctic and Antarctic so that polar bears and all the other animals that live in wild places won't become extinct.

I hope you'll sign the petition and tell the President that we need more regulations and rules to stop using nonrenewable resources and reduce our carbon emissions so that polar bears have a place in our world.

Also read some of the great work the Center for Biological Diversity is doing to protect the beautiful animals of our world.  Every bit helps!

Thank you for reading and thank you for taking action!

West Elm LOCAL

This is such an amazing opportunity, I'm going to apply, even though part of me feels like it's a huge crap shoot...it's worth it to try.

through another eye

I really do have the best customers/clients.  Charline from France purchased the Vespa pendant several months ago, and included them in her studio shots with photographer Adrien Durand

I never would've thought to shoot them in black and white and the sensuous way Charline is holding the necklace, but leave it to the ultra sexy French to shoot my jewelry this way!

Isn't she lovely?

As I prepare for the upcoming holiday season, I'm revving up my new collection and working on having the pieces shot on the body.  Several weeks ago I did a shoot at Starlight Restaurant in Uptown Greenville with Amber Burnette of DeKay Photography, the setting was ideal as we wanted a romantic place to shoot.

Here is one of the shots featuring the OOAK Vespa necklace.  Jena was a wonderful model and really carries my pieces well.  I can't wait to show you the rest of the shots but for now this will do.

The District Style

I forgot to post this months ago, but there's a nice snippet of DC boutique Redeem on The District Style featuring the Vespa III ring.

Of all my creations and lines, I must say I'm partial to the Vespa collection, I still love making those rings and ooak pieces.

but now it is onward, to a new redux collection of the Hunted...
