Gemstones and selecting the right one

I'd been thinking about this for awhile, about how much I LOVE gemstones but can't stand finding the right one or gauging how many to purchase for a collection.  Sometimes it can be a nightmare!

However, the love of stones outweighs the troubles that come with finding the right stone and also finding the time to make custom pieces with stones.

I've given this some serious thought as much of what happens with the one of a kind pieces I make depend so much on the color, shape and form of the stone.  Over the years I've acquired several favorite gem dealers that I rely on to select the right stone, and this has been a godsend.

Planning stages

Sorry I've been absent with posts.  As you can imagine some days I'm not sure what to post about or don't really have anything new to post and then that stretches into a week!

But trust me, there is quite a bit happening in my world. I'm very psyched to announce that I'm planning a bridal collection! 

A friend suggested I should do one and at first I was a bit hesitant but the more I thought about it and counted the times I sold rings to customers as wedding rings the more I feel that this is completely appropriate and perfect timing. 

I'll be shooting the lookbook for the collection with one of my favorite and trusted photographers, Aileen Devlin.  We have great chemistry working together, I can't wait to get it all started.

Valkyrie Collection photo outtakes

I've posted these beautiful images on several of my social media sites but not here.  Aileen Devlin is such a stellar photographer and always works to get the best shot.  I like how we grouped them and played with how they were laid out, along with mixing in the Vespa Collection. 

I was so pleased at how well the collection has been received; several sold in the first day of releasing the collection.  However there are still several left.  You can shop today!

Love, love LOVE purple.  So I just went nuts in this collection.

And I believe this is my favorite necklace, the stone just worked so well with the design.

VESPA Collection F/W 13

With the craziness of the fashion show (Aurelian Nights), I forgot to post the beautiful shots of Sterling Lieske that my good friend and super talented photographer, Aileen Devlin took several weeks ago. 

I'm SO very happy with the way the images came out.  Aileen went with it and is stellar and taking jewelry photos.  We shot the lookbook in an abandoned house right down the street from my apartment, it was the perfect setting.

Earrings Galore

Happy Monday! It was such a beautiful weekend, I wish it wasn't Monday but I'm trying to be positive.  

As I had stated in my previous post, lots of exciting events are coming up and one of them is participating in the Earrings Galore exhibition at Heidi Lowe Gallery in Rehoboth, Delaware.   Earrings Galore is a group show featuring handmade and contemporary earrings by veteran and new artists.  I'm very honored to be participating in this show; I'd always admired the previous earrings in the show, especially by friends like Sarah West and Tara Locklear. 

Below are just one of the pair of earrings I submitted for the show.  I bought the yellow apatite crystals when I last visited Asheville, aren't they pretty? Perfect for spring and summer!

Posedion collection release

Gemstones have always held a fascinating quality to me, the way the light shines through them, and the intricate crystal formations.  Several months ago I found these beautiful aragonite stones on my favorite gemstone retailer, Instant Karma.  I find how a great way to highlight them with replicating the shapes in cut brass.  

Thus I present to you several pieces from my spring/summer collection 2013, the Poseidon Collection.  This collection is only available through my website and is under $100.  I wanted to create a collection of jewelry exudes glamour, high drama with beautiful stones at an affordable price.

Gem is truly outrageous!

As you've already known, from reading my blog, I'm a dork, a nerd - especially about gemstones, jewelry, and Jem the 80's cartoon.  Anywho, I just got in a shipment of beautiful amethyst points and some small tourmalines from Points of Light.  Aren't they gorgeous?

The carnelians I got from a local shop for a custom order.  I haven't used carnelians in the crow or talon pieces but I think they'll look beautiful.

Jem and the Hollograms and Gems

Back in the day when I was a little girl, I LOVED Jem and the Holograms. I'd wake up Saturday mornings, I think around 8am just to watch the show. I wanted to dress like her, basically be her.

One Christmas I got the Jem doll, with light up earrings and a very cool waterbed. She was so rockin'. Anywho, I was watching a video of Jem on youtube and I realized how cool her style is, albeit very 80's but I kinda like it now. I mean, check out the colored hair and neon outfits?!

Her makeup and accessories have me somewhat inspired to make some lightening jewelry...not that I haven't already done that.

Okay for reals, on Gemstones, I just got LarkBooks 500 Gemstone Jewels and it is packed with the most beautiful gemstone jewelry work I've ever seen.

I highly recommend purchasing this book. I flip through it almost daily.
