Artisan revival in North Carolina
It's so encouraging to see projects such as the Makery and Mercury studio continue to evolve and become bigger.
This is a sweet video they created for their Kickstarter campaign.
Thanks for reading/watching and hopefully you'll support their campaign.

Taxidermy and jewelry
I've always admired Julia's gorgeous jewelry, but didn't know she was a taxidermist. I love this video of her slowly working on a baby chick for a future exhibition.
I've seriously considered taking taxidermy courses and learning the craft. Julia inspires me, especially with her ethical stance on animals.

Momentary Myth the video
Momentary Myth from Eilisain on Vimeo.
So I finally did it, I had a video made of my jewelry. I really wanted to wait until a week before the exhibition with Sim Asher, but I just couldn't wait any longer. I've been holding onto the video for about a month, and I have the hardest time keeping secrets!
Spike Hoban directed and made the video and he is really talented. I'm so lucky I got to have him work on it; Spike also directed Kat Cole and Dejan Jovanic's videos and well, if you've seen them you'll know what I'm talking about!
I hope you enjoy it!

handembroidered textiles
Was perusing Etsy's blog and came upon this lovely video of women who hand embroider clothes in Lefkara, Cyprus and the business of handcrafted versus machinery.
I love little old ladies that have so much knowledge. Makes me miss my Abuelita in Panama and my Grandma Fee in Omaha, NE.
Hope you enjoyed the long weekend, I sure did!

Song of the Day: Second Song by TV on the Radio
TV on the Radio never lets me down, they are definitely an 'art' band - committed to the art of music. I wonder who did the video - so very cool.
Enjoy and happy Friday!

song of the day: Deep Red Bells by Neko Case
I can't stop playing this song. Neko has the strongest and most beautiful voice of female contemporary singer/songwriters today.
And she's quite beautiful, I have a bit of a girl crush on her.
As you know, Fridays evenings 6-8pm, I'll be DJing at WZMB (livestreaming). Tonight's theme will be 'otherworlds'; where does music take you and what songs seem to conjure other planets and lifetimes.
As Andistan (another DJ at WZMB says) turn off the ME-Pod of and turn on the we-pod radio!

Fleurs D'Exces
I found this via Nowness, which always presents the coolest of the cool videos. I wish I could paste the video on here but I couldn't get the link.
However, here it is:

I love how she encases her creations in glass terrarium containers. Victoire de Castellane is the jewelry designer for Dior. She's very, very talented. Enjoy!
And as always, thank you for reading.

imitating plant movement
It's what I think is the nature-inspired part of Jill Platner's jewelry. I'm really digging her sunlit studio and all the lovely plants she maintains in it. One day...that's going to be me, in my studio, with staff and maybe even a gallery.
Coolhunting did a video in her studio. Check it out:

Happy Winter Solstice
We're officially crawling back towards the light on the shortest day of the year. It's comforting to know that Spring (my favorite season) will be coming soon but at the same time to revel in Winter's coldness by staying inside, reading, sipping tea or making jewelry!
In celebration, I give you a great time lapse video of this morning's lunar eclipse. I wanted to stay up and see it but I was so tired!
What a beautiful sight, to see colors change on the moon's surface. The universe never ceases to amaze me.

Hot Wax!
I know, I've been posting videos as of lately but it's just what I've come across the most.
This video was done by Jenn Parnell, an adjunct faculty/teacher at Maryland Institute College of Art and at the Corcoran College of Art + Design. Many years ago I took a short advanced soldering class from Jenn at the Corcoran. She's a very good and patient instructor.
Check out her video, I find it helpful, especially since I'm taking casting this fall.
