Keep it in the Can

*Video taken by Lorena Angulo

Several months ago, Laura Wood of Equinox Gallery contacted a group of artists to submit pins for a special surprise for Bob Ebendorf, whom would be presenting an exhibition & workshop at Equinox, Keep it in the Can, just last weekend.  The above video is Bob's reaction to the surprise.

Bob is beloved by so many in the metals community, he has such a wonderful way of connecting with people and making you feel wonderful and curious about the world.

I was very honored to be able to give him a gift of gratitude.  Below is the pin I made, with the Resurrection beetle and an amethyst point.  I felt it was so appropriate to use the beetle in the pin as Bob has resurrected his career many times throughout his life, and I wanted it to signify that.

The pin I made for Bob Ebendorf.
There is a wonderful catalog that Equinox created with images of all the pins made for Bob, you can order one from Equinox by emailing them: equinoxexhibitions@gmail.com.  The catalogs are only $10! I am ordering one today and can't wait to see all the beautiful pins made in honor of Bob Ebendorf.

4th Annual ECU Symposium Material Topics: Making Marks

Gosh it feels like just yesterday Laura Wood was planning the first symposium!

Here it is 4 years later and ECU graduate students have carried the torch.  This year my good friend DJ is running the show and she, along with the rest of the grads and undergrads have a super awesome weekend planned.  This year's title is Making Marks and I think that is very applicable to what is happening in the field.  So many new and up and coming (as well as veterans) metalsmiths and makers (whatever you want to call yourself) have created new opportunities, techniques and methods of working on their craft.

I'm really looking forward to being a part of the symposium and attending.  There is STILL time to REGISTER for the symposium.

Awesome poster!

I'm so impressed with the roster of workshops and discussions...can't wait and I hope to see you there!

Eilisain now being sold at Equinox Gallery

I'm very happy and honored to announce that some of my jewelry will now be sold at Equinox Gallery, located in San Antonio, Texas.   The jewelry that Alejandro creates is quite beautiful and very, very well handcrafted; it's such a good feeling when your work is featured alongside other talented artisans and jewelers.

Below is The Hunted Crow Claw ring in ancient bronze with a black tourmaline - one of my recently popular rings.  I sent several of this and the pendant.  Just in time for the Autumn and Halloween season!

Southwest School of Art

Southwest School of Art Success Stories from Mark & Angela Walley on Vimeo.

Southwest School of Art sounds like a wonderful place, I've been wanting visit for awhile to also catch up my friend Laura Wood and meet Alejandro.  I've heard so much about the school and several other artists that teach and work at SSA such as Lorena Angulo, Jillian Palone and many more.

It's wonderful to hear the personal stories of artists that work at SSA and how vital the school is to the community.   I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

The owl talon ring gets around

Laura Wood wearing her new owl talon ring with a green apphylite stone.  We're trading rings and I'm so happy she loves it.  Her words: "Woot WHOOT! love my new bling to match my sexy earrings!"

Gettin' sassy in front of the camera.  Miss her spirit in the Gville 'hood

Yet another awesome show/sale at Equinox Gallery. This is the first time I'll have my production jewelry sold at a Gallery/Boutique. I'm very excited and honored to be selling with such talented artists.

I'll be selling my Hunted line of jewelry, with my most popular item - owl talon earrings.

All jewelry sold will be under $100 - a great deal especially since it's all hand made!

As I'd mentioned in a previous post, I'm very honored to be a part of this exhibition with so many talented artists. It is a night to celebrate the brooch at Equinox Gallery in San Antonio, Texas. Such a great idea for an exhibition!

Laura Wood and Alejandro Sifuentes, owner of Equinox Gallery have been working hard to ensure a successful show - they will have live models wearing the brooches on the night of the show, December 2. If you live in the San Antonio area, you should go! I wish I could.

Dirty LAM studios open house

Parents in arms: Mario Paredes' Mom and Laura Wood's Mom, two very supportive ladies
Ms. Laura Wood posing in front of her studio space and with an Andy Denton mug!

Autumn Brown's lovely display case.
Her porcelain mini-sculptures are like small worlds!

Autumn's studio space/workstation.

This past Friday evening was the open house for Dirty LAM studios (Laura Wood, Autumn Brown and Matt Amante shared studio space).

It was a fun event and really great to see their new space and how they work in their respective mediums: Laura with paper and metal, Autumn with porcelain and metal and Matt with his sculptures. I also learned how Laura stores all her pulp and Autumn with her porcelain. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of Matt's space and work.

LAM studios participated in Greenville's First Friday art walk, residents can ride a trolley and visit all the local art studio's, galleries and participating restaurants and business'. It's a wonderful way to nurture Greenville's small but burgeoning art scene.

It's super comforting and reassuring to see my friends and fellow metalsmiths establish themselves and open their own studios. Hopefully I can do the same one day.

Thank you for reading and visiting my friends websites!

Dirty little lamb

Such a great name for Laura Wood, Autumn Brown and Matt Amante's studio.

L (Laura) A (Autumn) M (Matt) are having their studio opening/soiree next week, Friday May 6th, for Greenville's Uptown Art Walk. I'm psyched because I've heard so much from them on how they love working in their studio since graduating and I want to see how they have it set up.

If you live in the Greenville area please come and join us to toast to their new studio and enjoy local art!
